Bryn Pica AD plant starts commissioning

Biogen’s new 22,500 tonne food waste recycling plant at Bryn Pica, Aberdare will shortly begin commissioning.

Tue 3 Mar 2015

The anaerobic digestion facility will take food waste from homes and businesses in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil and Newport to generate one mega-watt of green electricity for the grid and a nutrient-rich fertiliser for farmland.  The electricity generated will be sufficient to power around 2,250 homes. The plant will be fully operational by July 2015.

Waste management company Wastesavers is  encouraging local residents to separate their food waste from their household rubbish so that it can be collected by the council for transport to the AD plant. Read more here:  http://bit.ly/18i0fOJ
