Research & development
BIOGEN is dedicated to promoting, developing and utilising new technologies to respond to today’s environmental challenges. We use our expertise to deliver eco-technology solutions that meet those challenges whilst supporting the sustainability of the environment, farming and rural communities.
BIOGEN is working within an innovative and fast changing industry and will ensure it keeps abreast of and utilises the latest technology developments as they occur. Ongoing research and development (R&D) concentrates on the improvement of plant, equipment and processes to continually increase the efficiency of the whole operation.
R&D knowledge and experience gained from BIOGEN Twinwoods has been developed for further Second Generation plants with an improved and enlarged design. These Second Generation plants will be rolled out around the country in partnership with farmers, landowners and food waste producers to form a nationwide network of Integrated AD plants.
Ongoing R&D also includes developing our own dedicated laboratory facilities to analyse, for example, the special characteristics of different types of food waste and how they interact with one another in the digestion process.
In the future BIOGEN may also look for applications of associated green technologies for the treatment of other waste materials, recycling, the development of other bio-fuels and the reduction of carbon emissions.
