Overview
BIOGEN has adapted an existing technology called Anaerobic Digestion (AD) by developing a model that solves the significant food waste challenges we have in the UK and integrates the AD process into the farming environment. This enables us to deal with both food and animal waste and to produce a nutrient-rich bio-fertiliser that is used a soil conditioner as part of arable crop production.
The basic AD process has been used for many years in sewage management and is increasingly used in Europe as a major contributor to green energy production.
In Germany, where many farms receive subsidies to grow maize as a biomass for AD, there are now over 3000 AD plants and by 2010 they are expected to generate power equivalent to 23% of the UK’s current energy production.
BIOGEN’s Integrated AD combines an existing technology base with an integrated model that provides a green solution for UK food waste in an environmentally friendly way.
