We design, build, own and operate anaerobic digestion (AD) plants, recycling food waste to generate renewable electricity for the grid and a valuable fertiliser for farmland. Biogen provide food waste treatment services to local authorities in England and Wales and to major supermarkets, food manufacturers, pubs and restaurants.
We have an opportunity for a self-motivated Plant Engineer to assist in the running of our AD Plant, near Rushden, processing 65,000 tonnes of food waste per year. You will assist the General Manager, deputising when required, in the safe operation of the site, to maximise a cost effective and efficient output whilst continuously improving safety, health, environmental and operational standards and systems.
Responsibilities include co-ordinating and carrying out maintenance (planned and reactive) whilst leading the Planned Preventative Maintenance System to ensure routine checking, monitoring, service and repair is carried out in a timely fashion to the required standard. You will assist in the achievement and compliance of ISO requirements, and compliance with environmental permits and Animal By-Products Regulations. This role is hands on and will assist in the intake, sorting and loading operation of feedstock supply, and in managing digestate stock levels and quality. This role will support the General Manager to manage staffing levels ensuring there is sufficient labour to operate the plant to maximum output as well as providing cover at other sites as and when required. The role must highlight any plant performance concerns and ensure that the AD Plant site maintains high standards of housekeeping at all times.
The successful candidates will be qualified in electrical / mechanical engineering, ideally with experience from a related process industry. Experience in engineering, PLC controls or electronics would also be an advantage. You will ideally hold a qualification or possess experience in materials handling, confined spaces, working at heights and first aid. Training will be provided to complete a WAMITAB certificate of technical competency and a NEBOSH general certificate, if these are not already held. Able to follow procedure and protocol you will focus on the main purpose of the job, and adapt to changing circumstances effectively. Self-motivated, flexible and with effective people management skills you will be a good team player but also confident to work on your own. It is important that you are safety conscious and aware of environmental impacts.
Due to the nature of the role a full UK Driving Licence is required. You will have the ability to operate a fork lift truck and obtain a fork lift truck licence. The role will involve working weekends and call out on a rota basis, and remote monitoring of the AD Process.
